Boxing: Heavyweight Titlist Anthony Joshua Inks Deal with Showtime

When heavyweight slugger Anthony Joshua destroyed Charles Martin inside two rounds on April 9, the boxing world buzzed with the notion of a young knockout artist wreaking havoc upon the sport’s marquee division.

On Wednesday, Showtime Sports and Matchroom Boxing announced a multi-fight licensing agreement with Joshua for Showtime Networks, Inc. The agreement makes the cable network the exclusive television partner of the undefeated IBF champion.

Joshua (16-0, 16 KOs) captured Olympic gold in the 2012 Games at super heavyweight. When he won the IBF heavyweight crown by dispatching of Martin, he became the sixth super heavyweight Olympic gold medalist to win a version of the heavyweight title in the pro ranks, joining such legendary men as George Foreman, Joe Frazier, Lennox Lewis and Wladimir Klitschko.

Joshua is slated to make the first defense of his title on June 25 when he goes toe-to-toe with Dominic Breazeale (17-0, 15 KOs) at the O2 Arena in London.
