Giles vs. Cosce

Welterweights

Trevin Giles (14-4, 5-4 UFC) vs. Louis Cosce (7-1, 0-1 UFC)

ODDS: Giles (-205), Cosce (+175)

This is a great opportunity for two welterweight prospects to turn around some negative momentum. When things are clicking for Giles, “The Problem” looks like a potential contender no matter his weight class, mixing in knockout power with some strong wrestling. Despite finding some strings of success in the UFC, Giles often cannot seem to get out of his own way. In each of his four losses, he has looked good up until the point that things go horribly wrong due to his own overconfidence, whether it is diving right into a submission or a defensive lapse leaving him open for a sudden come-from-behind knockout. At the moment, Giles’ issue has been the latter two of those scenarios, with Dricus Du Plessis and Michael Morales each putting a sudden end to his night on the feet. That makes this an interesting pairing. Cosce and his brother each earned contracts via Dana White’s Contender Series in 2020. While Orion Cosce has carved out a bit of a niche as a gritty grinder, Louis’ approach is to punch first and ask questions later. His career up to his UFC debut against Sasha Palatnikov was built entirely on first-round finishes—a streak that almost continued against the Warrior Academy product. However, after Palatnikov survived the early going, Cosce faded badly on his way to getting knocked out in the third round. Cosce has been out of action in the nearly two years since, so hopefully that is an issue he has addressed. This still figures to be Giles’ fight, assuming he can avoid getting knocked out in the first round—a definite concern, but probably not something worth banking on. The pick is Giles via second-round stoppage.
