9. Matt Serra Upsets Georges St. Pierre


Regarded by most as the biggest upset in the history of the sport, the underdog Serra took out St. Pierre with a series of first-round punches to capture the welterweight championship at UFC 69 on April 7, 2007 in Houston. Serra was afforded the opportunity to face GSP by winning Season 4 of “The Ultimate Fighter.” In reality, the bout was intended to be a showcase for the popular Canadian champion. No one outside of Serra’s inner circle gave him much of a chance.

Serra entered the cage confident and prepared, as he went right after “Rush” at the Toyota Center. He hurt St. Pierre with power punches on multiple occasions before driving him to the mat and finishing it with standing ground-and-pound. The Tristar Gym cornerstone got his revenge a little more than a year later -- he disposed of Serra with knees to the body at UFC 83 -- and went on to become the greatest welterweight in MMA history. However, no one will ever forget the night he bowed to Serra.
