Jackson-Wink MMA’s Cerrone dispatched Barboza with a rear-naked choke in the first round of their lightweight showcase at the Amway Center. Cerrone finished it 3:15 into Round 1. Barboza wobbled “Cowboy” with a ringing right hand in the opening seconds and controlled the early exchanges with his damaging kicks and hand speed, pairing precise power punching combinations with kicks to the leg and body. Prosperity was short-lived for the former Ring of Combat champion. Cerrone floored him with a left jab, jumped to his back and locked in the choke with no wasted movement. Barboza had no choice but to tap, marking the first time he had been submitted as a professional.
