UFC 199 By The Numbers

It took 26 professional bouts for Michael Bisping to receive his first title shot. It took him 3:36 to become the UFC’s eighth middleweight champion.

“The Count” defied the odds to capture 185-pound gold, knocking out the heavily-favored Luke Rockhold in the UFC 199 headliner at the Forum in Los Angeles on Saturday night. Bisping, who took the bout on approximately two week’s notice, ended Rockhold’s five-fight winning streak to cap off an evening filled with spectacular violence.

In the co-main event, Dominick Cruz closed the book on his rivalry with Urijah Faber, as he rolled to a clear-cut unanimous verdict in their trilogy bout. It was his first title defense since 2011 and solidified the Alliance MMA standout’s place atop the bantamweight division.

On an action-packed night with a pair of title bouts atop the card, there are plenty of facts and figures to review. Here is a by-the-numbers look at UFC 199, with statistics courtesy of FightMetric.com.

19: UFC wins for Bisping, tying him with Georges St. Pierre for first in promotion history.

26: Career UFC bouts for Bisping after his fight with Rockhold on Saturday, tying him with Gleison Tibau for second-most in the history of the promotion. Frank Mir and Tito Ortiz are tied for No. 1 with 27.

576: Days since Rockhold defeated Bisping via second-round submission in their initial meeting at UFC Fight Night in Sydney on Nov. 7, 2014.

4: First-round KO/TKO victories for Bisping in UFC competition. However, his stoppage of Rockhold was his first such triumph in the Octagon since June 7, 2008.

21: Significant strikes landed by Bisping. That total included 14 blows to the head, three to the body and four to the leg of his opponent. Rockhold, meanwhile, landed 17 significant strikes.

12: Bantamweight wins in UFC/WEC competition for Cruz, the most in the combined history of the organizations. His 12-fight winning streak in those organizations ties him with Daniel Cormier and Georges St. Pierre for the fifth longest undefeated streak among fighters with experience in the UFC, WEC, Pride and Strikeforce. Only Anderson Silva (16), Jose Aldo (15), Fedor Emelianenko (15) and Jon Jones (13) have authored longer winning streaks.

1,708: Days since Cruz’s last bantamweight title defense, a five-round verdict over current flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson at UFC Live 6.

7: Consecutive losses in championship bouts for Faber, dating back to a first-round knockout defeat against Mike Thomas Brown at WEC 36 in 2008. Faber is 0-4 in UFC title fights following his loss to Cruz.

53: Significant strikes by which Cruz outlanded Faber. “The Dominator” outlanded his foe 10 to 4 in round one, 21 to 6 in round two, 21 to 10 in round three, 18 to 7 in round four and 17 to 7 in round five.

9: Consecutive wins for Max Holloway, who outpointed Ricardo Lamas in a featured featherweight duel. That is the third-longest active winning streak in the UFC behind only Jon Jones (13) and Demetrious Johnson (10). Holloway also owns the longest active winning streak at 145 pounds with eight straight victories.

103: Significant strikes landed by Holloway, the fourth time in his career that he has exceeded the century mark in a UFC fight. By comparison, Lamas landed 64 significant strikes.

90: Significant strikes by which Jessica Andrade outlanded Jessica Penne in their strawweight encounter. In consecutive bouts, Penne has been a victim of the second and third greatest significant strike deficits in the history of the division. The former Invicta FC champ was outlanded by 101 significant strikes in a title bout against Joanna Jedrzejczyk a little less than a year ago.

17: Failed takedown attempts by Penne in those two defeats. Penne failed on six attempts vs. Andrade and 11 against Jedrzejczyk.

24: Career submission attempts for Miller. The American Top Team product attempted one submission on Saturday to move into a tie with Joe Stevenson for fifth place in UFC history.

15: Media scorecards, of the 20 tracked by MMADecisions.com, that scored the middleweight bout between Kevin Casey and Elvis Mutapcic in favor of Casey. The official result was a split draw.

147: Total strikes landed by Marco Polo Reyes in his wild third-round knockout win over Dong Hyun Kim at lightweight. Reyes attempted a whopping 312 total strikes in the bout. Kim, meanwhile, landed 99 of 214 total strikes.
