Trey Ogden Wants Win Bonus After Premature Stoppage at UFC Fight Night 232

Trey Ogden wants his full fight purse from UFC Fight Night 232.

After being in control against Nikolas Motta throughout their fight, Ogden sunk in a deep arm-triangle late in the third round. Referee Mike Beltran prompted Motta to react twice before suddenly stepping in, inviting immediate protest from the Brazilian. While it initially seemed like Ogden would get the nod, it was declared a no contest upon review.

This means both fighters are now only eligible for their show money, despite the fact that Ogden seemed to be on his way to winning the fight with two of the judges scoring the first two rounds in his favor.

The Missouri native asked for his full purse in his post-fight interview, and “Samurai Ghost” reiterated that sentiment while speaking to media after the fight.

“I’m just trying to keep my composure and be a professional. Life happens… I’m no stranger to adversity... But this one hurts,” Ogden said. “Records are records, numbers are numbers. But I really hope I get my win purse because I deserve it. I won all three rounds and with two minutes left in the fight, I’m in mount and in an arm triangle and the referee went on to stop the fight.

“Even if the arm triangle didn’t submit him, I was in the mount. I would have stayed in mount till the end of the fight and I would have won the fight and got paid. There is a tremendous amount of sacrifice that goes into this game and in this sport for me and my family… and financial sacrifice… I did nothing wrong. I did my job, I fought as hard as I could. It was an exciting fight; it was a tough fight and I won.”

Ogden is now 1-2 with one no contest in the UFC. In his previous outing, he dropped a unanimous decision to Iganacio Bahamondes at UFC 287 on April 8.
